Bethany House Emergency Shelter

The Story of Bethany House

The Bethany House opened in 1986 and can house up to 32 women and children at any given time. We are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Bethany House provides emergency shelter and supportive services for women and their children experiencing homelessness in Berkeley County and the surrounding Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. The shelter is a 32 bed facility that offers a safe, stable, and family centered environment.

The Bethany House ensures that mothers do not have to separate from their children to access emergency housing and support. We provide the only year-round shelter option specifically for women in Berkeley County and the only option for children to stay with their mothers during times of crisis in the region.

The Bethany House offers a comprehensive approach to stabilization that includes safe shelter, case management, connection to employment and benefits, and support in securing permanent housing. Staff work closely with each resident to develop individualized plans that address immediate needs while building long term stability. This may include assisting residents with job searches, coordinating childcare and school transportation, and securing documentation required for housing applications. The Bethany House coordinates services with community partners and provides referrals to healthcare and behavioral health providers, giving families access to the resources needed to succeed.
